Arlene Johnson Taylor

Arlene Johnson Taylor, 69 of rural Chanute passed away at her home surrounded by her family on Monday, October 21, 2024. Arlene was born the youngest child of five on October 25, 1954 in Chanute, Kansas to Fred and Hazel (Ingle) Johnson. Arlene graduated from Altoona Midway High School in 1972, she then attended Neosho County Community College earning her Associate’s Degree in 1974. On March 30, 1985, Arlene married Greg Taylor in Chanute. Arlene began her 39-year career at Ash Grove Cement Plant in 1977. While at Ash Grove, Arlene’s dedication and work shined. Arlene excelled at every job she performed, whether it was working in the control room or operating the heavy equipment. In 2016 Arlene retired and focused on her family and loved ones. She loved to attend every sporting event or concert for her grandson and nieces and nephews. Arlene loved to knit and crochet, travel, cook and play cards especially 13-point pitch. Besides her love for her family, she loved her beloved St. Louis Cardinals. Through the years her and the family made countless trips to Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City and Busch Stadium in St. Louis to watch the I70 series and cheer on the Cardinals. Arlene will be remembered for her loving and caring heart, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend that would do anything necessary to help others. Arlene is preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Hazel Johnson, sister, Evelyn Johnson, and brothers, Duane and Larry Johnson. Her memory will carry on with her husband, Greg Taylor of Chanute, daughter, Lynsey Cation and partner Chad Oliverson of Wichita, grandson, Cooper Cation, brother Charles and wife Phyllis Johnson, and numerous nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Countryside Funeral Home and a Celebration of Arlene’s life will take place at The First Baptist Church in Chanute on Saturday, November 30, 2024 at 11:00 am. Attire for Arlene’s Celebration of Life will be your favorite sports team or St. Louis Cardinal attire. Memorial contributions can be made in Arlene’s name to the Cherry Street Youth Center or Gentiva Hospice. Memorials can be left with Countryside Funeral Home.
