Walter Andrew Cook

Walter Andrew Cook, a beloved member of his community, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2025, at the age of 85. Born on November 10, 1939, in Greenville, Maine, Walter was the cherished son of David Cook and Jennie (Reynolds) Cook. He was a man of deep wisdom, kindness, and an adventurous spirit, whose life was marked by love, laughter, and service. Walter's journey began in the picturesque town of Greenville, where he attended school and developed a love for the outdoors and camaraderie. After completing his education, he proudly served his country by enlisting in the United States Army in December of 1960. During his military service, Walter worked on drones, showcasing not only his dedication but also his technical aptitude. He was honorably discharged in December of 1966, a proud veteran who carried the values of service and patriotism throughout his life. On February 21, 1969, Walter married the love of his life, Phyllis Marie Cole, in Oswego, Kansas. Together, they created a beautiful life filled with shared dreams and cherished memories. Walter’s devotion to Phyllis was evident to all who knew them, and their bond remained unbreakable until her passing. Walter had a diverse career, working at Advanced System Homes and later as a truck driver for Becker's Trucking, from which he retired after 20 years of service. His work ethic and commitment to excellence were admired by colleagues and friends alike. In his later years, Walter found joy in a variety of hobbies. He enjoyed visiting Downstream Casino, where he loved to play the slots and experience the thrill of chance. A passionate Kansas City Chiefs fan, Walter could often be found cheering on his favorite team with an infectious enthusiasm. He also had a special connection with others through his home base CB Radio, where he was affectionately known by his handle, “Giddy Up N' Go.” He could be found on many of evenings country cruising all over Neosho County enjoying the solitude of the peaceful country. These pastimes reflected his vibrant personality and his ability to connect with those around him. Walter's life was enriched by the love of his family. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Phyllis Marie Cook; his brother, David Cook; his sisters, Carolyn Whittaker and Joy Amelia Briggs; and his great niece, Amanda Rae Cook. He is survived by his devoted sister, Mary Pascoe of Colorado, and numerous nieces and nephews who will carry forward his legacy of love and kindness. A memorial service to honor Walter's life will be held on August 8, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Urbana Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to gather and celebrate the remarkable life of a man who touched the hearts of so many.
