Lucille Marie Mitchell

Lucille Marie Mitchell, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2025, at the age of 97, in Chanute, Kansas. Born on April 16, 1928, in Earlton, Kansas, Lucille lived a life rich with love, laughter, and cherished memories. She was the daughter of Curtis and Edith (Klauman) Bailey and was proud to have graduated from Thayer High School in 1946. Following her education, Lucille embarked on a fulfilling career as a bookkeeper, working for notable companies such as Burlington Overall, Montgomery Ward, and Ranz Motors, where she served until her retirement in 1990. Her dedication and hard work left a lasting impression on all who knew her. In 1972, Lucille married the love of her life, Lloyd Mitchell, in Chanute, Kansas. Their union was filled with joy and companionship until Lloyd’s passing on August 6, 1995. Throughout her life, Lucille was a devoted family woman, and she cherished her role as a mother to her daughters, Richie Casalvera (Barry Murray) and Dee Isle (Ed). She was also a proud grandmother to Lindsay Proud (William), Charlie Isle (Becky), and Heather Isle, and delighted in being a great-grandmother to Jason Isle (Hunter), Justin Isle (Kristen), Jaden Thomas, Brooklyn Proud, and Billy Proud. With the recent addition of great-great-grandchildren Katie Isle, Kori Isle, and another on the way, Lucille’s legacy of love continues to grow. She also had a special spot in her heart for two special people she considered grandchildren, Jason Bollig and Andrew Markham. Lucille was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd, parents, Curtis and Edith and her beloved brothers, Marvin and Dale Bailey. Her warm spirit and nurturing nature touched the lives of many, and she will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. A lifelong member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Lucille was also actively involved in her community. She participated in several organizations, including the VFW American Legion, the Meadowlark Good Sam's Camping Club, and the Hitch Hikers Club. Her vibrant spirit was evident in her hobbies; she loved to sew, bowl, golf, and travel with her furry copilot, Sammy, her cherished dog. Lucille had a playful side and enjoyed visits to the casino, where she could often be found enjoying the thrill of the game. Lucille's family and friends remember her not only for her active participation in life but also for the warmth and love she radiated. Her generous heart extended beyond her family; in her memory, donations can be made to the Allen County Animal Rescue Facility (ACARF) or St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be held in her honor on August 15, 2025, at 2:00 PM at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Chanute. Burial will follow at Thayer Cemetery. The family will greet friends at Countryside Funeral Home on Thursday, August 14th from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Reciting of the Rosary will be held at 5:00 pm before the visitation.
